Summer in Spain: Long Weekend In Lagos, Portugal

¡Hola! We just ended a nice four day weekend in Lagos, Portugal. We had Thursday and Friday off of school due to another holiday, Corpus Christi. Again, we aren't sure what the holiday is but we took the opportunity to get out of town and travel to Portugal! Our bus left early Thursday morning at 7:30am. However, before we left the house Christina and I ran into an interesting situation. As I was getting ready I walked into the bathroom to be greeted by a five inch (at least) cockroach Needless to say I quickly was woken up and frozen in my tracks. Christina and I stood there, not quite sure how to handle the situation. After ten minutes of trying to figure out how not to kill it (we were afraid of it's size), avoid it, but still be on time for our bus, the cockroach scurried on it's way into the living room. Neither of us handle bugs very well but we were pretty proud of ourselves for not waking our host mom up. And we still made it to the bus stop on time!

We were told that our bus ride was going to be four and a half hours to Portugal. Six hours later we arrived! It was a long but worth it ride. When we got there we checked into our hostel which was really nice, Casa Holandesa. It was clean, spacious, and accommodated our needs. We were all a little weary to stay at a hostel because I've heard some interesting stories. But this place was almost like a bed and breakfast. The couple that owned it were very nice and it was close to the beach which was a plus! After we dropped our luggage off we went next door to eat at a restaurant called Dom Luis. It was owned by a local and they had awesome food. I had tomatoes with mozzarella and basil (one of my personal favorites).

Once we got directions we headed towards the ocean which was beyond anything I had expected. The pictures do not even begin to do it justice. Carly, Maggie, Melissa, Iris and I went for a boat ride through the caves off the shore. It was so neat. For a majority of the time the water was only four feet deep! I was glad we did the boat ride instead of the kayaking because those of you who know me well know that kayaking just isn't my thing ;)

That night we cooked dinner in Melissa's room. We had pesto pasta with shrimp, bread and salad. We all helped cook and clean up. We did this for two nights, it was much cheaper than eating out. Our last night we headed into town to eat at a nicer restaurant. Dinner was good, tortellini with shrimp. We did some shopping in town and also went out for a couple drinks. It was fun to explore and not be on any certain time schedule.

After two very relaxing days on the beach we had to return home (another six hour bus ride) to Sevilla. Looking forward to another week at school...only three more weeks left!
